Android とひと括りにすべきではない・・・

Neither Microsoft, Nokia, nor anyone else should fork Android. It’s unforkable. | Ars Technica

Android isn’t designed to be forked. With GMS, Google has deliberately designed Android to resist forking. Suggestions that Microsoft scrap its own operating system in favor of such a fork simply betray a lack of understanding of the way Google has built the Android platform.

OpeniBoot is an open source group dedicated to figuring out the bootrom on iOS devices.

What this means is that OpeniBoot produce tools which allow unsigned code to launch on Apple’s devices, which means you can install other operating systems on your device.

Throwing out software that works | Scripting News

〈Marco Arment の意見について・・・〉

We’re entering an era of deliberate degradation of the user experience and throwing overboard of software that works, for corporate reasons.

What I want is the convenient form factor without the corporate filter.

It’s way too simplistic to believe that we’ll get that, but we had it. That’s what I don’t like — deliberate devolution.

Posts At Eventide: “Apple and The Law of Large Numbers” by Robert Paul Leitao: 31 July 2010

In the June quarter close to 50% of Apple’s revenue was derived from products that did not exist in the market just over three years ago. In the September and December quarters, well over 50% of Apple’s reported revenue will be derived from iPhone and iPad sales. At the moment there’s no practical limit to the size of the market for these two products.

One Mobile App for Multiple Platforms Almost a Reality | ReadWriteWeb

The fundamental problem with mobile development isn’t the back end, though. The backbone of all of these platforms is C or Java, which is generally portable if written with that intention. The problem is user interface development, which requires deep knowledge and understanding of each mobile device. Making the UI cross-platform solves the vast majority of problems associated with this kind of development. If you had to point to where the approach falls short, it would be that cross-platform applications don’t feel “native,” a shortcoming that would be solved by good design and better CSS work!

〈群れのメンタリティ OS はマイクロソフトだけと考えるのも同じか、おもしろい!〉

Operating systems aren’t mere components like RAM or CPUs; they’re the single most important part of the computing experience. Other than Apple, there’s not a single PC maker that controls the most important aspect of its computers. Imagine how much better the industry would be if there were more than one computer maker trying to move the state of the art forward.
