But that’s how news reporters increasingly are treating the state of the industry. The desire for the “Oh, how the mighty Apple has fallen” narrative is so strong that the narrative is simply being stated as fact, evidence to the contrary be damned. It’s reported as true simply because they want it to be true. They’re declaring “The King is dead; long live the King” not because the king has actually died or abdicated the throne, but because they’re bored with the king and want to write a new coronation story.

David Kelley is the founder of the Silicon Valley global design firm IDEO. His company has created thousands of breakthrough inventions including the first computer mouse for Apple, the stand-up toothpaste tube, and a better Pringle for Procter & Gamble. IDEO may be the most influential product design company in the world.

IDEO founder David Kelley talks Jobs, Apple | The Loop

When many Apple fans hear about Apple’s design, they think about Jony Ive. But Ive wasn’t the first person to design a product for Apple. Steve Jobs worked with a number of influential designers over the years, and 60 Minutes has turned its gaze to one of the most important ones – David Kelley and his firm IDEO. This is a really interesting look at a man and his design philosophy.

The interview is fascinating anyway, but Apple enthusiasts may especially like his comments on working with Steve, and how Steve helped him when Kelley was diagnosed with his own cancer.

In conversation with Matt Mullenweg, WordPress | Om Malik

At Le Web 2012, I chatted on stage with my friend Matt Mullenweg. We discussed a variety of topics, but the conversation kicked off with our growing disgust with the un-customer centric approach of social networks. In their bid to become dominant platforms, they are sacrificing the needs of Internet users, and perhaps that is why it is time for the Internet entrepreneurs to think different about how we build the future.

Apple CEO Tim Cook announces plans to manufacture Mac computers in USA | Rock Center with Brian Williams

In an exclusive interview with Brian Williams airing tonight at 10pm/9c on NBC’s “Rock Center,” Apple CEO Tim Cook announced one of the existing Mac lines will be manufactured exclusively in the United States next year. Mac fans will have to wait to see which Mac line it will be because Apple, widely known for its secrecy, left it vague. Cook’s announcement may or may not confirm recent rumors in the blogosphere sparked by iMacs inscribed in the back with “Assembled in USA.”

Tim Cook’s Freshman Year: The Apple CEO Speaks | Businessweek

“So just to be clear, I wouldn’t call that a process. Creativity and innovation are something you can’t flowchart out. Some things you can, and we do, and we’re very disciplined in those areas. But creativity isn’t one of those. A lot of companies have innovation departments, and this is always a sign that something is wrong when you have a VP of innovation or something. You know, put a for-sale sign on the door.”
