iPad 新聞「Daily」は 2011 年にずれ込む?

News Corp iPad daily may be delayed into 2011 | Electronista
The News Corp tablet publication The Daily may not arrive until early next year, sources alleged Friday afternoon. They rebuffed the rumors of a mid-December launch and said it was “more likely” to reach into 2011. What triggered the delay wasn’t clear in the Financial Times slip, but Apple supposedly hadn’t yet agreed to allow recurring subscriptions.

Apple Beefs Up Legal Team for Patent Showdowns With Nokia, Motorola, HTC | Bloomberg
Jobs, Apple’s chief executive officer, is firing back by recruiting lawyers who have fought for and against some of the world’s largest companies, including Microsoft, Intel Corp. and Broadcom Corp. Broadcom won a patent dispute with Qualcomm Inc. last year that ended with Qualcomm paying $891 million in cash over four years.
Apple has hired some of the nation’s top patent lawyers as outside counsel. They include Lee of WilmerHale in Boston, who successfully represented Broadcom in its fight against Qualcomm; Robert Krupka of Kirkland & Ellis, who negotiated a 2005 settlement in which Apple agreed to pay $100 million to Creative Technology Ltd., maker of the Zen music player; and Matt Powers of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, who successfully defended the patent on Merck & Co.’s biggest product, the $4.7 billion-a-year asthma drug Singulair.
This year, Apple added an in-house attorney, Noreen Krall, to focus on intellectual property litigation. Krall had been chief IP counsel for Sun Microsystems Inc. and a staff attorney at International Business Machines Corp., according to the Intellectual Property Owners Association.

Cydia hack enables Airplay in all apps | 9 to 5 Mac
Following on from Erica’s Sadun’s discovery of a way to enable AirPlay Video streaming in third-party apps, a developer named Zone-MR created a hack which enables this feature in all applications including Apple’s Safari.
This is big because it means Apple could easily (and will likely) enable it in future versions of the iOS.

Airplay for App Store developer concept shown | 9 to 5 Mac
Erica Sadun builds the first proof of concept third party app (that I’ve seen) that uses Airplay to push the content to an HDTV. Developers take note, this will be big (if the lag can be avoided). According to Sadun, it amounts to changing one line of code.

Apple makes big land purchase in Cupertino | San Jose Mercury News
〈元 HP 所有地を 98 エーカー取得〉
At a time when Apple is adding new workers almost as fast as it sells new iPhones and iPads, the pioneering computer maker has made a 98-acre land purchase that will roughly double the size of its home base in Cupertino.
Apple’s latest acquisition is the longtime Cupertino campus of rival tech giant Hewlett-Packard, the Mercury News learned Wednesday. HP announced over the summer that it planned to move out of that site, which it had occupied for decades, as it consolidates operations at its Palo Alto headquarters over the next two years.
