9月1日の発表で iPod Classic が消える?

Whither the iPod Classic? | Daring Fireball
Dan Frommer wonders whether Apple is set to eliminate the hard-drive based iPod Classic next week. I wouldn’t be shocked if they did, but I bet they won’t. The iPod Classic is like the Mac Pro — not something that sells in huge numbers compared to Apple’s mass market products, but it fills a lucrative and important niche. Some people really do want 160 GB of music in their pocket.

Adobe updates Web-based Photoshop, no longer demands membership | Betanews
Firstly, a Photoshop.com account is no longer needed to use Photoshop Express Editor. Users can simply navigate to the Web app, upload photos directly from their local drive, edit and change the photos, and then save them back on their local storage. Previously, an account was necessary, and photos were uploaded to online storage first before they were edited. This is still an option, as Photoshop.com members can still store and share photos online as well as create albums, but it’s no longer the only way to use the Editor.

Please Stop Making New Phones With Old Firmware | Gizmodo
〈アンドロイドのフラグメンテーション〉
It’s a rough landscape for cellphone shoppers, who’ve faced four major releases with four different firmwares in just the last couple of months: Droid X launched with Android 2.1, Droid 2 followed with Froyo, while Dell Streak had Android 1.6 along for the ride. And today, Aero.
So here’s the plan. Hardware manufacturers, once a new firmware is released, stop churning out old phones and get what’s already on the market updated asap. Stop putting crazy skins on top of Android that do more harm than good and slow the update process. And—especially when an Android update has been in the open for a few months already already—take the time to incorporate the latest and greatest firmware onto your handsets so that your customers know exactly what they’re getting. It’s time to get serious about hardware/software synchronicity.

Steve Jobs Is Watching You: Apple Seeking to Patent Spyware | Electronic Frontier Foundation
It looks like Apple, Inc., is exploring a new business opportunity: spyware and what we’re calling “traitorware.” While users were celebrating the new jailbreaking and unlocking exemptions, Apple was quietly preparing to apply for a patent on technology that, among other things, would allow Apple to identify and punish users who take advantage of those exemptions or otherwise tinker with their devices. This patent application does nothing short of providing a roadmap for how Apple can — and presumably will — spy on its customers and control the way its customers use Apple products. As Sony-BMG learned, spying on your customers is bad for business. And the kind of spying enabled here is especially creepy — it’s not just spyware, it’s “traitorware,” since it is designed to allow Apple to retaliate against you if you do something Apple doesn’t like.
